A Moody Fall Weekend in Breckenridge

Partly Cloudy
We spent the weekend in Breckenridge with the family to soak in the fall colors and enjoy the mountains. The weather was a bit moody at times, and we got caught in a few rainstorms. The leaves are strange this year — a lot had already dropped, and it's noticeably less vibrant in some groves than in years past.
First hike (well, drive) was sunrise at the top of Boreas Pass. I got there before the weekend leaf-peeping crowd showed up and was greeted with an absolutely epic sunrise — the sky lit up red and gold, and it was beautiful to watch from the summit of the pass.

Shortly after, some rain quickly moved in, but it came with an awesome surprise: a double rainbow. A beautiful morning before heading back to spend the day with the family.

Sunday morning, me and my 7-year-old son decided we wanted to go check out the troll and then hike over to the Aspen Alley trail. It was a beautiful morning — crisp and wet, smelled like fall for sure.

We hiked up Aspen Alley, which was pretty, but a lot of the leaves at the top had already fallen. Nice trail, and going up for sunrise, we were able to escape the crowds.
Coming back, my son found one of the coolest rocks I have ever seen, sitting in some mine tailings — just covered in giant crystals. I've spent my whole life looking for a rock that cool, and he just pulls one out without even trying.

We headed back to town to get packed up, and managed to score a couple Melanzana appointments, so we made the drive to Leadville and the whole family got fitted with some new Melly's.

Awesome weekend with the family in the mountains.
