The Story Behind This Shot
A herd of bison grazing through fresh snow at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Commerce City, Colorado, with a big bare cottonwood on the left and fog softening everything into warm, muted tones. The animals spread across the whole frame, heads down and working through the snow for grass. Bison returned to the refuge in 2007, and the herd is now one of the easiest bison viewing spots in the country, a short drive from downtown Denver.
