Getting a natural result

  • Match the direction of light. If your foreground is lit from the left, pick a sky with its brightest area on the left.
  • Match the time of day. A golden sunset sky over a midday foreground never looks right.
  • Let the sky color the scene: Photoshop's Lighting Adjustments, or a warm color layer at low opacity over the foreground.
  • Flip a sky horizontally when the light or the cloud shapes suit your scene better the other way.

Questions

What size are the skies?

Up to 6000 pixels on the long edge, cropped from full-resolution camera files, saved as full-quality JPEGs. That's enough for large prints of the finished image.

What's included?

28 skies: mostly sunrise and sunset color (fiery reds, soft pastels, layered clouds), a set of lenticular and wave clouds, and four northern lights skies from the May 2024 aurora over the eastern plains near Sterling.

Which software do they work with?

Photoshop's Sky Replacement and Luminar Neo's Sky AI load them directly. Any editor with layers and masks (Affinity Photo, GIMP, Photoshop Elements) works the manual way. Lightroom doesn't have sky replacement.

Can I use them in photos I sell or client work?

Yes. Use them in your own finished images, personal or commercial. You just can't resell, share or redistribute the sky files themselves.

Are these real skies?

Yes, every one is a real sky I photographed, 27 in Colorado and one over the Rio Grande Gorge in northern New Mexico. No AI-generated skies.

Refunds?

Because it's an instant digital download, sales are final. If a file is broken or won't open, contact me and I'll fix it.
