The Story Behind This Shot

A 25-second exposure at a beaver pond near Guanella Pass, Colorado, blurs a stormy sky into soft streaks while gold aspens, dark spruce and willows reflect in the still water. The beaver dam runs across the middle of the frame, with bright willow branches in the foreground. Guanella Pass Road between Georgetown and Grant passes plenty of ponds like this, and early October usually brings the best mix of color. A moody, textured fall print with a lot of depth.
