DIA Sunflower Fields

About DIA Sunflower Fields
Denver International Airport leases thousands of acres of its land to farmers, and in some years whole sections bloom with sunflowers for a few weeks in late summer. The farmers rotate their crops, so the fields move from year to year; the easiest way to find them is to drive the roads around the airport, such as Tower Road, 56th Avenue, 120th Avenue and Imboden Road, and look. The flowers are a working crop on airport property, so park safely on the shoulder of a paved road, stay out of the rows, and leave the drone at home. Evening is the time to go: summer storms often build over the plains, and breaks in the clouds throw sun rays and the occasional rainbow over the fields. A longer lens from the roadside compresses the rows into a wall of yellow.
