• Denver — The Mile High City, with around 300 days of sunshine a year and enough neighborhood variety to fill several separate trips — history, transportation, food, and a lively cultural scene all in reach without leaving downtown. Blue hour downtown, once the city lights come up but the sky still holds color, is consistently the best window for a skyline shot.
• Colorado State Capitol, Denver — Built in 1894 with a dome plated in real Colorado gold leaf, sitting at the head of Civic Center Park with a grand set of front steps. The dome catches direct sun for a good stretch of the day, but the building reads strongest at blue hour, once the interior and exterior lighting come up against a darkening sky — free public tours run on weekdays if you want the interior stained glass too.
• Denver Botanic Gardens — One of the most-visited botanical gardens in the country, with living collections spanning tropical to tundra across 24 acres in the heart of the city. Most of the gardens lean into Colorado natives suited to a semi-arid climate, but there are dedicated sections showcasing plants from well beyond the state too, alongside a steady calendar of exhibits and events — an useful macro-lens location any time of year, rain or shine.
• Denver City Park — The city's flagship regional park, home to the Denver Zoo, the Museum of Nature and Science, an IMAX theater, two lakes, and enough sports fields and playgrounds to fill a whole weekend on their own — without ever driving out of the city. The classic shot here is the downtown skyline reflected across Ferril Lake, with the mountains lined up behind it on a clear day.
